Overnutrition is a form of malnutrition (imbalanced nutrition) arising from excessive intake of nutrients, leading to accumulation of body fat that impairs health (i.e.,overweight/obesity). Overnutrition had been viewed as a problem that only affected developed nations. However, overnutrition is a growing problem worldwide. Overnutrition has several implications on cardiometabolic conditions, leading to chronic non-communicable diseases. Overnutrition can develop into obesity, which increases the risk of serious health conditions, including cardiovascular disease, hypertension, cancer, and type-2 diabetes.
Factors
- Genetic factors: Genetic inheritance probably 50-70 % a person's chance of becoming fat more than any other factor.
- Age and sex: Females are found more to be over weight .Hormonal predisposition put women at high risk of obesity when compared to men.
- Eating habits: Nibbling between meals ,Consumption of Junk food, Consumption of sugar added beverage
- Physical Activity: Lack of physical activity may lead to obesity
- Stress: Self gratification, self punishment depression, anxiety and stress may lead to excess calorie intake.
- Trauma: Obseity may follow due to damage to hypothalamus after head injury because it is not able to regulate appetite or satiety.
- Prosperity and civilisation:These had brought plentiful supply of appetising foods, concentrated foods and variety of foods in the market.
